Apothecary John Rawlings pursues a panoply of murders, drawn in by the first victim, Aidan Fenchurch, who leaves him a note identifying his murderer. Michael Tudor Barnes creates the myriad voices and accents of the large cast in this intriguing Georgian mystery with the facility of the true professional. The combination of historical figures and richly imagined fictional ones makes for an entertaining listen, not only from the author but from the narrator, as well. This work is part of a series. Perhaps beginning with an earlier book would sort out the many characters, even though the story does stand fairly well on its own. In some ways, it makes the listener want to hear others in the series. B.H.B. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/NOV 05]
