A WINTER GRAVE

This excellent mystery pairs an outstanding performance by narrator Peter Forbes and a riveting story set in a near-future Scotland. Forbes is extremely easy to listen to. His voice is deep and expressive and carries a pleasant Scottish accent. He handles both dialogue and narration with aplomb; his nuanced work with characters' voices is especially notable. In 2051, Detective Inspector Cameron Brodie is dispatched to the Highlands to investigate the murder of a man found encased in ice. Climate change is ravaging the world, and technology has made what was once available only to a few very accessible to many. But the fundamentals of human nature haven't changed, and Brodie is haunted by past mistakes. It all comes together in an exceptional offering.
