THE GREAT RECLAMATION

Windson Liong performs this sweeping epic, set in Singapore during the political upheaval of the mid-twentieth century. As a fisherman struggles to find enough fish to support his family, his young son, Ah Boon, discovers a mysterious island that has hundreds of fish off of its shores. When his family's new prosperity means that Ah Boon can go to school, his attendance unexpectedly draws the attention of political radicals. Liong captures the many voices of the characters who come in and out of Ah Boon's life. As the years pass and Ah Boon must decide what he is willing to give up in the name of progress, Liong imbues his performance with all of Ah Boon's complex emotions and anxieties.
