WHILE MY PRETTY ONE SLEEPS

George Guidall's narrative expertise keeps Higgins Clark's 1989 novel from sounding dated. Listeners will easily identify with all the characters as Neeve, the fashion designer, and her father, the former New York City Police Commissioner, face their family's demons as they work together to solve the murder of an acquaintance. The mystery is unraveled at an even pace, and the timing of Guidall's delivery is perfect. Although Jan Maxwell, the usual narrator of Higgins Clark's works, is an excellent reader in her own right, Guidall offers his own interpretations here and is also a strong match for the bestselling author's work.
