This novel of Elhanan Rosenbaum's life in Romania, Israel and New York and the effect of his declining memory on his son, Malkiel, implicates all mankind in the fight to "never forget" the Holocaust. The narrator does a superb job, with accents of German, Yiddish, Hebrew and Romanian well-integrated into the plot. Guidall does not use different voices for each person, an appropriate choice for such a strong story. This is not an easy book to hear in an automobile and might be better at home, where more attention can be paid to what is written between the lines. The packaging is innovative for Recorded Books. They are commended for sprucing up their packaging. E.F. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: APR 93]
