To her surprise, Jack Wingate, an associate of the local crime boss, offers to help. Hallett infuses Prudence with confidence in her ability to handle whatever is thrown at her. The former client blames Prudence for her son's murder, and Hallett's portrayal brings out the touch of madness in the woman's grief.
