After losing her 3-year-old daughter to cancer (a story Housden told in the acclaimed HANNAH'S GIFT), the author goes to a writer's retreat and falls in love with, and eventually marries, another writer, an act which necessitates her leaving her remaining three children with their father. Staci Snell does a good job narrating this self-engrossed memoir, which is, as it flashes back to the past, terribly sad and often hard to listen to. In a beautiful voice that is both gentle and wise, Snell exposes this woman's choices. One marvels at Snell's ability to read without flinching or weeping as the book raises more questions than it answers. J.C.G. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 06]
