In finding the house and garden they’ve dreamed of, the Sheppards have also found the prize of a lifetime growing in that garden: a blue rose. But is this the prize they think it is, and, if so, why is their world starting to crumble? As Gordon Griffin sorts it all out, we realize we’re hearing the story and not the reader. His reading is secondary to the characters and the plot, and we are eager to get on with the mystery, never thinking that it’s being read to us; it's just happening.
