AMERICAN TOO

by | Read by Barbara Caruso

Children Ages 4-8 • 20 min. • Unabridged • © 1996

Rosina, an Italian immigrant in the early twentieth century, rebels at being named queen of San Gennaro feast day. Inspired by the Statue of Liberty, she reconciles family tradition with her desire to be a modern American girl by leading the parade dressed as Lady Liberty. Caruso gives this short story a warm, sympathetic reading, capturing the spirit of Rosina (Rosie) beautifully. What she cannot convey is the Little Italy setting that Ted Lewin depicts so strongly in his richly detailed watercolor illustrations for the picture book American Too. This audiobook will be enjoyed most if paired with the picture book itself. C.R.A. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/MAR 99]
