History, drama, and fantasy collide in this mesmerizing audiobook, deftly narrated by Patricia Allison. Her delivery enhances the engaging tale with a variety of voices, accents, and characters. In London, Joan Sands magically creates and maintains the knives and swords of the King's Men, Shakespeare's acting company at the Globe Theatre. Delightful historical detail is mixed with fae creatures, magical gifts, LGBT and queer characters, and energetic fight scenes. There are a few moments in the production when the tone of Allison's voice changes--as if edits had been added later. Nonetheless, from the tender moments between Joan and her brother, James, to the fast-paced action sequences, Allison delivers a near-perfect performance.
