THE GLASS CHATEAU

Raphael Corkhill's gruffness accentuates the stark realities of the post-WWII French countryside. Asher, a former soldier and assassin, wanders the devastation, seeking to find a place for himself after surviving the horrors of war. Starving and desperate, he stumbles upon an atelier in a chateau that creates stained-glass windows for cathedrals. In the studio he excels artistically while keeping his Jewish heritage hidden. Corkhill's portrayals of the gnarly local craftsmen and chateau inhabitants vividly capture each character's personality. Asher is portrayed as angry at first, but he becomes increasingly philosophical and then inspired as he finds the place where he belongs.
