Ruth Redman expertly presents this uncommon mystery featuring Adam Ferranti, a disgraced Washington reporter who flees to a newspaper in Yorkshire, England. There he tells Detective Sergeant Stephanie Walker he's been contacted by a much sought after serial killer who's given him inside information. Well-rendered, relatable characters and a combination of politics and murder from the 1970s to the 2000s make for irresistible listening. Most memorable is a sweet-natured Indian cabbie who is hired to help Ferranti sober up and get to work everyday. Redman is at her best with the many plot twists and red herrings. Heartbreaking revelations about both Walker and Ferranti add drama to a conclusion few will see coming. S.G.B.
