EYEWITNESS 1930-1939

[Editor's Note: This a combined review with EYEWITNESS: 1940-1949.]--A fascinating sample of British people speak in these recordings, collected from eclectic archives of 1930-1949. Politicians, authors, newscasters, and ordinary citizens relate stories about life on their island. While popping and static mar some of the sound segments, most have good quality. A few of the accents may stump some American listeners, but the majority will not. The variety of voices keeps the interest level high. Tim Pigott-Smith provides the narrative, and his familiar, calm voice gives continuity to an intimate look at Great Britain before and during WWII.
