Fifteen years after her City of Ember quartet was published, author Jeanne DuPrau offers a new postapocalyptic parable for middle-grade listeners. Keith's thirst for adventure leads both of them to discover a secret project. As Keith uncovers more about the mysterious project, listeners learn about how humans live their lives and coexist with the natural world in this future. In our own current reality, where young people are on the forefront of advocating for action on the climate crisis, DuPrau's message that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it may resonate.
