Anna Skellern narrates a multigenerational saga of secrets and betrayals. After her grandmother dies, Cassandra slowly unravels the mystery surrounding her past, traveling from Australia to the Cornish coast to discover the real identity of Nell Andrews. Skellern switches smoothly between the many accents needed to recount the complex stories of both Nell's and Cassandra's journeys. While the various twists occasionally stretch the bounds of believability, Skellern's narration never descends into melodrama; instead, her delivery in an utterly enthralling investigation of both women's lives and losses, and how they were shaped by them.
