Author Mike Michalowicz's boyishly enthusiastic tone works well with his optimistic writing about how leaders can choose and develop productive employees. He offers familiar strategies for retaining good team members--a safe working environment, abilities that fit responsibilities, and clear objectives and compensation. But the core message for leaders is broader: Create a logical structure that specifies what needs to be done, find people whose natural talents and work ethic fit the responsibilities, and look for character and social/emotional qualities that facilitate good teamwork and corporate citizenship. With hiring and development being so challenging these days, the author's cheery performance is a good vehicle for offering this advice. This and the accumulated wisdom of his experience result in a go-to guide for anyone who is leading others. T.W. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2024]
