Kansas student Dee Gale transfers to Trinity College, Dublin, in this contemporary retelling of THE WIZARD OF OZ, narrated by Rachel L. Jacobs. Dee's friends, Irishman Sam Clery and Brit Tim Woodman, are portrayed by Damian Gildea and Christian Coulson. Jacobs expresses Dee's anguish as she recovers from an inappropriate relationship with a member of her former university's faculty and regains her self-confidence as a writer. Gildea delves into Sam's defensive feelings about having dropped out of university and his late father. Coulson murmurs Tim's restrained, almost mechanical, dialogue even as he sells Tim's appeal as a quiet but dependable friend. Even the witches make an appearance as Dee's faculty advisors. Jacobs's empathy, together with Gildea's and Coulson's impeccable contributions, makes for a wondrous listen. C.A. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2024]
