EYEWITNESS 1990-1999

This production draws freely from the BBC's audio archives, giving it a "you-are-there" quality that would be difficult for any other company to achieve. Historian Joanna Bourke wrote the narrative for this and nine other decade-specific productions, covering the whole of the twentieth century. Naturally, the focus is on Great Britain, especially its politics and foreign policy. One hears Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher, John Major, and Tony Blair as each dominates the governmental scene. Ordinary people in extraordinary situations are also interviewed. The Gulf War, the death of Princess Diana, and the beginning of peace in Northern Ireland all reach center stage.
