Children Ages 4-6 • 1.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1970

These pleasantly old-fashioned British stories are given just the right tone by Jan Francis, who aptly captures their companionable, meant-to-be-read-aloud spirit. ("Do you like having stories read to you?" the narrator asks listeners early on; most do, though some, like the naughty little sister, pretend not to). Francis's reading of these vignettes allows the big sister's point of view to shine through, while also nicely expressing the spirit of the naughty little sister, who is both vexing and lovable, by turns. Francis is also willing and able to create a variety of voices, and does a very believable new baby cry--"waaah--waaah--waaah!"--when relaying the naughty little sister's first words.
