Cassandra Campbell and Ashley Klanac work together beautifully to unfold the mystery at the heart of this debut audiobook. Julia, a first-time novelist who is struggling to make ends meet as a bartender in contemporary Brooklyn, receives an offer from photographer Jonathan Aster. He wants Julia to research a photograph he took in 1964 of a woman falling from a bridge in Kentucky. Klanac portrays Julia with depth and authenticity as she grapples with an unplanned pregnancy while traveling to Kentucky to search for information behind the photograph. Campbell's expressive intonation and accents bring to life the small-town Kentucky residents whose lives intersect that of the woman in the photograph. An immersive, sometimes heartbreaking, tale of grief and redemption is well realized by two excellent narrators. M.J. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2024]
