After being expelled from school, Helen decides to ignore her aunt's wishes and sets off to reunite with her friend Jake. Together they search for her father while traveling throughout Europe in their quest to understand the mysteries surrounding the Philospher's Stone. Colin Moody breathes a tone of proper demeanor and determination into Helen, a characterization that contrasts aptly with Jake's lower-class Scots brogue and immaturity. In his narrative passages, Moody proves his skill by rendering the story in a well-paced but gentle manner that is apt to be more appealing to younger listeners while still engaging older ones.
