Coming to terms with teen angst through the skills of “knit and purl,” Liz Morton narrates this coming-of-age story expertly. Working through typical teen problems, from developing bodies to finding one’s true life mission, Scottie and her friend Amanda learn the limits of their friendship and find themselves in doing so. Morton effectively delivers the angst, denial, confusion, and excitement of high school years. Her characterizations, particularly in depicting inner thoughts, are well done. Using the new-again passion of the knitting circle to forge female group connections, Lenhard provides an inside look at the anxieties of the teen mind, and Morton "casts off " just right.
