Colin Moody reads this slight tale with a heavy Cockney accent, and his voice for Anna resembles an old schoolmarm's more than a little girl's. Purporting to be nonfiction, the story has the sound of fiction. Fynn finds Anna, a 5-year-old street waif, one night on the streets of East London and takes her home, where she captures the heart of the neighborhood for the next three years. Her "insights" into God, life, and human nature are charming, but no more precocious than the imaginative comments of most young children. Incidents are vague as to time and place (the author uses a pseudonym), making verification questionable. N.E.M. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/ MAY 06]
