GLUSKABE STORIES

Respected writer and poet Joseph Bruchac is also a well-known Native American storyteller. Careful, thoughtful attention to the storytelling experience is characteristic of his style. GLUSKABE STORIES presents traditional Abenaki tales that were intended to teach about life, values and man's relationship in the web of life. Bruchac begins each story about Gluskabe--the storyteller who created himself from dust brushed from the Creator's hands--with a few sentences in the Native tongue. Speaking in a gentle but commanding voice, he continues in English. The lyrical, rhythmical quality of his voice rolls with the fluidity and motion of the Native language.
