THE ANASTASIA SYNDROME AND OTHER STORIES

Clark knows how to write suspense, and Katie Firth knows enough not to overdramatize and let each story tell itself. In the title story, bestselling author Judith Chase, who has just finished her history of the English Civil War, sees a London psychiatrist for regression therapy. Her goal is to understand upsetting memories of her early childhood, but suddenly she morphs into a woman executed in 1660 who is bent on revenge. Firth needs only to inhabit the various characters and keep the pace moving for a winner here. The "other stories" are unnamed on the packaging or discs, but all are entertaining.
