DONA FLOR

Flor carries her schoolmates from home to school in one step; she reads to everyone faster than anyone else; her tortillas provide food for all, as well as roofing tiles and water rafts. Larger than the landscape of the American Southwest and friend to both people and animals, Flor faces her biggest challenge when a huge mountain lion terrorizes the village. Alma Cuervo narrates gently and deliberately. Her articulation emphasizes Flor's heartfelt efforts toward her friends and provides time to appreciate the Spanish woven into the story.
