THE FIRE BABY

Small town journalist Philip Dryden is covering a shocking murder story that even he finds disturbing. However, things get even more bizarre when Maggie, the woman at the center of the story, gives a deathbed confession to Dryden's wife, who has been comatose for four years. Narrator Ray Sawyer is splendid as the appealing Dryden and his taciturn (but helpful) taxi driver, Humph, who ferries him on his investigations. The wide emotional range, as one woman leaves the world while another reenters it, as well as Dryden's subtle humor is enhanced by Sawyer's measured approach.
