LEAVE ME ALONE, I'M READING Finding and Losing Myself in Books

by | Read by Maureen Corrigan

Contemporary Culture • 18.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2005

In short book reviews on NPR, Maureen Corrigan is palatable and has often turned me on to a good read, but 18 hours of an audiobook is a real test of endurance. In spite of years of experience as a radio reviewer and college professor, Corrigan's reading style is lifeless. There is little modulation of tempo or tone to her voice, and her tedious style makes her commentary on her obscure titles, many dating back to her pedantic Catholic school reading lists, seem like college lectures. I'll be glad to leave her alone with her mountains of unemotional, overlong commentary. N.E.M. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/ NOV 06]
