These four episodes from the classic true-crime radio series hold up surprisingly well, both in terms of content and recording quality. The recordings are either well preserved or very nicely edited, with only minor scratches. The best episode of the bunch is "The Red Hot Readers," a spicy tale of a forgery scam perpetrated by kids under the watchful eyes of a pair of passionate Fagins. Also notable is "The Case of the Hue and Cry," which features the vocal work of Art Carney and Les Damon. Unfortunately, missing from the liner notes is any information about original broadcast dates. S.E.S. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/NOV 00]
