On stage, the Marx Brothers improvised hilariously around the scripts written for them. One can see a little of these impromptu antics in the earliest of their films. However, one can hear them in the many radio appearances of Groucho Marx, a favorite guest on numerous programs. Always funnier than his writers, Groucho had only two shows of his own--the brief-lived “Shyster, Flywheel and Shyster,” co-starring brother Chico, and the long-running quiz show “You Bet Your Life.” Dove presents here four of these hilarious shows, the heart of which is Groucho’s amiable, off-the-cuff banter with contestants. Not even the brilliant, lovable Bill Cosby could fill his shoes when he tried to revive the show on television a few years ago. This tape demonstrates why.
