QUESTIONS OF VALUE

by | Read by Patrick Grim

Philosophy & Religion • 12 hrs. • Audio Program • © 2006

Patrick Grim's exceptionally organized approach is useful once he actually begins discussing questions of what values are and how we distinguish them from questions of fact. However, almost all of his first lecture is taken up with explaining methods and assumptions. Once you're past that, Grim's superior planning pays off. His tone is usually calm and measured as he explains complex philosophical issues with simple analogies, often illustrating his points with examples from classic and popular literature. He's also willing to act out tough moral issues, letting the emotions become audible. The only weakness to this set of 24 lectures is that, at times, Grim seems to oversimplify issues, misrepresenting their complexities.
