Welcome to the world of antiques run by the sleaziest characters you've ever met. Lovejoy creates antiques and can actually "divine" the true artifact, or so he says. While searching for the truth behind claims about the Holy Grail, Lovejoy is hunted by the law and every woman in town. Christopher Kay reads this droll, fairly tame murder mystery (published in 1979) in a slurred accent which, when combined with distinctly British slang, sometimes makes the story incomprehensible. Kay maintains the crude character of Lovejoy and the gruff exteriors of the antiques dealers. THE GRAIL TREE might be better as an abridgment, which would give the action a faster pace.
