The producers have chosen listener-friendly short stories by distinguished, if not representative, authors for this anthology of twentieth-century works. Except for actor/playwright Ossie Davis, these actors do not distinguish themselves for their vocal artistry. Perhaps, then, their maturity, literacy and love of the audio medium qualifies them. These characteristics make GREAT AMERICAN WRITERS a particularly satisfying listening experience. In lieu of dazzle, we get taste, a far more valuable commodity.
