Secrets of WWII come to light in this novel inspired by actual events. Poland is a long way from Australia, and Halina Shore is completely unprepared for what she discovers when she lends her skills as a forensic dentist to the investigation of a war crime in the village of her ancestors. Deidre Rubenstein’s sensitive reading reflects the strong emotions evoked by the unfolding events and the competing passions at the time the events occurred. Her facility with accents, timing, and pace adds dimension and intensity to the interplay between the original events and the attempt at current day re-examination.
