Adapted from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's program "This Morning," THE GREAT BOOKS presents a series of live conversations between commentator Michael Enright and University of Toronto's Professor Bruce Meyer as they survey the most influential literary works of Western Civilization, including works by Homer, Sophocles, Dante, Shakespeare and Joyce. Neither the script nor the performances are well polished, but no matter. The conversation is erudite and enlightening. As the series progresses through its 18 segments (6 in each of the 3 volumes), the logical sequencing of Meyer's literary choices shows the influence of each work on the next.
