THE SERVANTS OF TWILIGHT

An innocent trip to the mall turns into murder and mayhem when a deranged cult leader decides that a 6-year-old is the incarnation of the Antichrist. Jonathan Marosz captures the terror of mother and son as they flee the cult's misguided assassins, illuminating Koontz's clear understanding of the workings of fear on the human soul. While his performance sounds light on excitement and his timing rarely varies even in the wildest scenes, Marosz's portrayals of the story's main characters maintain consistency throughout most of the text. Originally published in 1984, the story remains fresh even with its lack of cell phones and Internet access, which would surely be included in a contemporary version.
