THE GREATEST HORROR STORIES OF THE 20TH CENTURY

by | Read by Michael Gross, Juliet Mills, Roger Rees et al.

Horror • 6 hrs. • Anthology • ©

Greenberg has married reader to story in 12 perfect unions of spoken and written speech. Juliet Mills presents a convincingly timid widow frightened out of her wits on New Year's Eve in "Calling Card." Robert Forster lulls us into complacency before delivering the killing blow in "Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper." Roger Rees presents a mentally handicapped adult as adeptly as the man's juvenile tormenters in "The Viaduct." One of the best offerings in the collection is Susan Anspach's eerie portrayal of a juvenile genius in "The Words of the Guru." Her protagonist's malicious intellect is at once innocent and evil. While the title might be a bit misleading, and the stories not quite up to the standards of the true horror addict, the performances in this collection are riveting.
