GREATNESS TO SPARE

by | Read by Timothy Patrick Miller

History • 3 hrs. • Abridged • © 1968

Fehrenbach, best known for THIS KIND OF WAR, his classic account of the Korean War, here tells of the fates of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence. Of the fifty-plus signers, some were imprisoned, some lost all they had, one never saw his family again, yet none renounced the cause of independence from Great Britain. Although not as engaging as his account of Korea, this is an eloquent work, and Miller's reading does credit to the text. He is confident and clear when reading the narrative. When reading quotations, he is able to bring out something of that signer's personality with the effective use of different accents and intonations.
