VANISHING POINT

Marriages--good and bad--provide the theme for Muller's 24th novel featuring private eye Sharon McCone. Jennifer Aldin hires McCone, in the midst of her own honeymoon, to learn how and why Jennifer's mother, Laurel Greenwood, disappeared 22 years earlier. The ingenious story has echoes of the work of Ross Macdonald, both in plot and locale, as McCone probes into family secrets. Susan Ericksen brings the story to audio with bright and lively characterizations that distinguish the players without overpowering the text. Even though at times her dramatization of dialogue and narration come across slightly forced, on the whole she maintains the tone of Muller's writing and makes the story come alive to listeners.
