In the letters, Mrs. Lovett recounts her upbringing as the daughter of a butcher, the ward of a mad doctor, and, later, the woman who baked Todd's victims into savory pies. Tanner's narration embodies Lovett's sometimes tragic, sometimes thrilling life with unapologetic poise, consistent pacing, and a sinister tone.
