Jill Tanner narrates this epistolary audiobook about the life of the infamous Mrs. Lovett, partner in crime to the murderous barber of Fleet Street, Sweeney Todd. Small segments are narrated by Steven Crossley and Amy Scanlon. The DCI of the London Metropolitan Police gathers evidence acquired by a now missing journalist who corresponded with the wicked Mrs. Lovett. In the letters, Mrs. Lovett recounts her upbringing as the daughter of a butcher, the ward of a mad doctor, and, later, the woman who baked Todd's victims into savory pies. Tanner's narration embodies Lovett's sometimes tragic, sometimes thrilling life with unapologetic poise, consistent pacing, and a sinister tone. However, multiple, noticeable production edits can jostle listeners out of their immersion. A.K.R. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2025]
