2110. The asteroid Kali, named for the goddess of death, races toward earth, an encounter which will destroy all life and earth itself. At 76, Arthur C. Clarke still writes a good story, but this book aspires to much more. It's loaded with scientific information, imaginative and educated predictions, and a revisionist look at history. Consequently, it's not an easy book to read aloud. George Guidall chooses a quiet, even pace which unifies disparate elements and suggests scientific detachment. He speaks clearly and without much emotion except for a tendency to drop the ends of sentences, occasionally leaving the listener reaching for the rewind button. Never mind, science fiction fans will reach, listen, reach again and be intrigued. L.R.S. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPT 94]
