A capable narrator and cast of character actors bring these six minidramas convincingly to life. In each story Texas Ranger Chick Bowdrie rides into town and solves a mystery. He's a Western detective whose sharp eyes and ears help him unearth the truth that usually escapes others. (Bowdrie can "track a snake across a flat rock.") The acting and sound effects of these dramatized stories are uniformly good. Happily, the production includes the voices of actual women and children--no falsettos required. The level, quiet voice of the narrator who portrays Bowdrie is well suited to the Ranger's character. L'Amour fans will enjoy hearing the author introduce two stories, giving insight into his research and his genuine love of the Old West.
