A capable narrator and cast of character actors bring these six minidramas convincingly to life. In each story Texas Ranger Chick Bowdrie rides into town and solves a mystery. He's a Western detective whose sharp eyes and ears help him unearth the truth that usually escapes others. (Bowdrie can "track a snake across a flat rock.") The acting and sound effects of these dramatized stories are uniformly good. Happily, the production includes the voices of actual women and children--no falsettos required. The level, quiet voice of the narrator who portrays Bowdrie is well suited to the Ranger's character.
