Narrator Tanya Eby portrays four women who are brought back together after a chance meeting. Ava was supposed to adopt Cindy's daughter, Shannon, but Cindy kept her. Ava ended up adopting Victoria. Years later, the four encounter each other. Victoria has a strained relationship with her mother, Ava, and Eby adds tension to her voice as the two interact. Shannon and Cindy have a close relationship. Cindy is engaged, and when Shannon's boyfriend proposes, she fears her mother will want a joint wedding. Eby smoothly differentiates the four women, giving Victoria a no-nonsense attitude, Ava a sophisticated one, Cindy a sweet personality, and Shannon an indecisive tone.
