SEA OF THUNDER The Pacific 1941-1945

While trying to retake the Philippine Islands from the Japanese in WWII, the U.S. Navy fought the last great sea engagement in world history, the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Narrator George Wilson starts with a quote from Winston Churchill, whom he mimics: " War is mainly a catalog of blunders." The tactical mistakes made by Admiral Halsey and his foe, Admiral Kurita, dominate the story. Wilson keeps the narrative vital and exciting, using every bit of the action to maximize excitement for the listener. He uses dramatized voices for many of the historical figures--including Tokyo Rose--and describes the kamikaze attacks and torpedo hits with the restrained authority of a seasoned commander.
