DIGORY THE DRAGON SLAYER

Whimsical dragon-slaying adventures will have young boys reaching for their own armor and swords. Digory's transformation from village coward to knight errant is ably chronicled by narrator Richard Mitchley. Mitchley eschews high drama for a laid-back, believable reading and inserts gentle humor at Digory's riotous wanderings about the countryside. Mitchley's ability to skirt farce adds significantly to the book's appeal as a family listen. While the Briticisms may occasionally stymie young Americans, listeners will enjoy the querulous voices of the forgetful king and the roaring of Digory's dragon.
