HEART OF THE WEST

by | Read by Amy Brenneman

Fiction • 5 hrs. • Abridged • © 1995

Williamson's story of a strong-willed Boston girl transplanted to wild Montana in 1879 pulses with steamy emotions, harsh language and rugged adventure. Brenneman gives her listeners full value. She also offers many fine characterizations. Each regional accent is adeptly handled and molded for each character. A slight exception is the heroine, Clementine, whose late-nineteenth-century Bostonian accent could be more identifiable than the bland voicing it's given. The plot has some odd stops and starts, also. Were it not for Brenneman's compellingly professional reading, listeners might be lost in the succession of denouements.
