SANDWICHED

This is a novel about the "sandwich generation"--middle-aged people who are caring for both parents and children. Recently divorced 40-something CiCi Dupree lives with her recently widowed mother, Belle, and her 17-year-old daughter, Erin. Each narrator reads a different woman's part. Belle has a warm, understanding grandmotherly voice, and Erin has the slightly whiny voice of a young woman on the verge of adulthood. Cici is portrayed as a sharp-tongued, uptight yet insecure mother who treats both her mother and her daughter as children. Because the women are relatives, their differing accents are distracting.
