This second book in the Twins of Petaybee trilogy brings back the young twins Murel and Ronan, who are selkies and, thus, have the ability to shapeshift into seals. They find lots of ways to get themselves into tight spots when they head a mission to rescue a group of refugees whom their sentient planet has agreed to shelter. Robert Ramirez delivers a subtle and nuanced narration that is expressive and, at times, almost playful, such as the scenes in which the twins interact with their "sky otter." Ramirez brings out the combination of pride, overconfidence, and anxiety that gives realism to the portrayal of the twins and their friends.
