THE HOME OF THE BLIZZARD

by | Read by James Condon

Fiction • 19.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1930

The coldest, windiest place on Earth went largely unexplored until the early twentieth century, when an Australian expedition led by Douglas Mawson spent two years living on the icy subcontinent of Antarctica. Experienced narrator James Condon, also an Australian, brings perfect elocution to the production, although he works hard to smother any Australian regionalism in the King's English. His evident pleasure in the narrative's every word obstructs the listener's appreciation. During passages of extreme challenge and tragedy, Condon allows himself to be caught up in the story, and the production benefits. For the majority of the tale, however, the listener must penetrate his perfect enunciation to glean the plot. R.P.L. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 00]
