When Neddie Wentworthstein's family moves from Chicago to Los Angeles, Neddie is up for adventure. The Wild West of the 1950s comes to life as the action unfolds. Full of villains, cowboys, Indians, kids, and turtles, the story is fast-paced and funny. Neddie is a lovable, down-to-earth hero who rises to the challenges before him. Daniel Pinkwater himself delivers the story with an understated enthusiasm. He reads in a runnning monotone--an appropriate delivery for the character of a kid who is telling a crazy story that he takes for granted will be believed,. The effect is heartwarming and engaging.
